Pilgrims Contemporary shows work by emerging and established artists from the UK and abroad. Alongside a traditional gallery programme, we put on exhibitions outdoors, in woodland and open spaces, using temporary structures built on site.
Showing work outside changes how people experience it. Light, weather and surroundings all play a part, and our visitors come to the work differently than they would in a gallery.
Our programme exhibits new artists alongside more established names. We want to give artists room to experiment and a chance to be seen, and to give audiences work that is worth seeking out.

Nestled 418 metres above sea level, in a quiet stretch of woodland near Alston in the heart of the North Pennines, our newest home is taking shape.
Created as a place to celebrate artists whose work explores our connection with nature, landscape and the ever-changing world around us.
As a Fair Weather Gallery, we will open our doors when the weather allows. Hop over the turnstile and bear left to access the woodland exhibition.
